I used to believe that if a church was "successful", it was also safe.
But over time, I began to recognize how quickly church environments can become harmful when unhealthy leadership dynamics lead to fear and manipulation. As a psychotherapist, certified coach, and organizational development consultant, I’ve spent 30 years helping organizations—including communities of faith—understand the dynamics that shape safe and supportive cultures. But some of the most important lessons have come through listening to stories so similar to my own that the patterns became impossible to ignore.
Sadly, a growing number of people within Christian communities are quietly struggling.
Some feel wounded and invisible. Some remain silent even when they know something is seriously wrong. Others have tried to speak up and been ignored, intimidated, or labeled "divisive." Yet others find themselves slowly disconnecting from church altogether—not because they've stopped longing for a vibrant relationship with Jesus, but because repeated experiences with self-serving and controlling church leaders have left them wounded, exhausted, and relucatant to reengage.

This work does not come from a desire to attack the Church, but from an abiding hope that it will begin to more fully reflect the life-giving love of Christ.
